Comfy is the New Business Casual

Posted by Angela Hawkins on

With mandatory stay-at-home and shelter-in-place orders being enacted across the country as a part of the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, more and more of the nation’s workforce has made the shift to working remotely.

For those of us who are used to waking up early, spending at least an hour in a full-on beauty routine and putting on our best business casual attire to go out and slay the day, this new normal has definitely been an adjustment.

Working from home already comes with its own set of difficulties - from keeping a schedule to knowing how to self-motivate and stay on task.

But, most of us would agree that besides avoiding our typical traffic-ridden commute, one of the biggest upsides to working remotely is being able to dress down.  Finding attire that allows you to still look and feel professional while being practical can be challenging.

Well, worry no more! There are definitely some ways you can still enjoy the creature comforts of working from your living room while also looking put-together.

Here are a few tried and true tips from a work-from-home veteran on how to stay telework chic:

Layer on the style

Keep staples like cardigans and blazers close by in case you need to jazz up your look for a quick video conference.  A nice loungewear top layered with a blazer or sweater will keep you looking like a boss on top, while you keep the party going down below.

Tailoring and fabric are everything

Choose loungewear that is structured enough to look like you tried but comfy and breathable enough that you'll want to live in it all day long.

Keep it simple

Choose versatile, mix-and-match basics that keep you looking stylish, while at the same time amp up your work-from-home wardrobe options.

Staying home doesn’t mean you need to be boring with your style.  The new business casual offers a relaxed, casual vibe with smart design and luxe materials that make wearability a breeze.  It’s the perfect compromise between getting ultra-dressy and being team underdressed for that big virtual meeting with your colleagues.

Maintaining a “go-to” collection of sophisticated, yet casual loungewear that follows the above tips is just one part of staying on top of your game while teleworking.  It’s equally important that you continue to maintain a healthy self-care routine that involves eating well, finding times to move and get out of the house (safely, of course), and getting plenty of sleep.  All of these will help you be more productive during the day and allow you to show up as your best self professionally and for your loved ones.

The key is ultimately to find your happy.  In these trying times, it’s definitely the little things that make all the difference.
